When a fire broke out aboard the, steamer City of Chicago, the captain' headed shorewards, and landed three hundred passengers clad in their nightclothes at the Government breakwater> after a thrilling'raoe against the flames. In order to avoid a panic, the crew and passengers were not called until approaching the breakwater. The vessel is expected to be a total loss. . The City of Chicago Is a vessel of 1439 tons, owned by Graham and Morton Transport Co. of Chicago.
