HOCKEY

WEDNESDAY COMPETITION. The third series of games in the third round of the mid-week competitions' took place at Karori Park yesterday afternoon. In the Hereawa r. Pakeha match. HereaiTO had the best of the play all through. The game at times was very fast, and some fine forward passing was seen. In the first spell Schauer scored for Hereawa, and' Caterer (Hereawa.) in the second , epell scored a fine goal from a corner-hit. Herea-wa won by 2 goals to nil Mr. J. C. Ousack was referee. In the .-Ramblers A v. Hui Mai contest, Hui Mai, playing two men short, suffered defeat' by 6 goals to 2. In the first epell Bree scored for Hui Mai, and Meddleton , for Ramblers. In tho second epell Ramblers had all the best of the play, putting on 5 goals to Hui Mai's 1. The scores were:Tleapby (3), Meddleton and. N.' Johnson (1 each), and Bay scored for Hui Mai. Mr. W. .Cooper was referee Petone had a very easy win over Ramblers by 15 goals to nil. The scores were: Cavell (6), Edlin (3), Howe (2), M'Ewan (2),Taplin (2). Mr. B. Burn ucted as referee. There was a large attendance at Victoria Park this afternoon, about 1000 pecplo being present to witness the match between the • English ladies' hockey, team and the representatives from the West Coast. Piny was fast from tho commencement, the visitors winning by 6 to nil. The local players showed good play individually, but the English team showed splondid combination.
