MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain Parsons, who for 'years was tho commodore master of the fine fleet of vessels owned by Messrs.' Lfl.wt.her, Latha, of London, has been, succeeded by Captain I'arslow, of the Anglo-Califoraian. Captain Parsons, who Is well known in Australasian waters, has retired from the 6ca. Captain R. E. Smith brought, the Union Company's Wairuna from Sydney to southern ports this trip, and on arrival at Duncdin he came ashore to return to Auckland. Captain Collins will take charge of the Wairuna pro tern. Mr. S. Thorns, .second officer pf the Putiki, signed off that vessel at Wellington Mr. H. Darroch, chief officer of the Olimaroa, has temporarily joined the Moorahal in a similar capacity, in p iaco of Mr. Low. who has joined the TJlimaroa. Mr. J. Luke, second officer of the TJlimaroa, who has been oh holiday leave, has rejoined his vcesel. Mr. Low, late acting-chief engineer of the Kamona, was a passenger for the south by tho Maori last ..evening. The- Huddart-Parker steamer TJlimaroa, ,which arrived at Wellington from Sydney at 9 a.m. yesterday—one day early—loft the New South Wales port at 4 p.m. on Friday last. Strong northerly winds were experienced on the run across the Taeman Sea. Till the vessel neaved the New Zealand coast the weather was dull Mid rainy. The TJlimaroa will sail for Lyttelton. to-day, and return. to Wellington. in. time to take her departure from this port for • Sydney and Melbourne at 6 p.m. on Friday. Inquiries made in Wellington, yesterday elicited the information that six sailing vessels are loading on the Pacific Coast for New Zealand ports, while the schooner Annie M. Campbell is at present en. route to Wellington. Captain Roberts, of the Corlntnic, has sent a wireless message to the local office of the company stating that his ship is, quite safe. The Cortnthic left London on, July 24 for Cape Town, Hobart, and Wellington, and is due hero on Tuesday, next, September. 0. According to a wireless message received from the Chatham Islands, the 6teamer Hiraitangi, which left Wellington on Wednesday, Augu6t 26, arrived at Waitangi last Bunday. It will be about the end of next week before the 0. and D. Line's steamer Star of Australia arrives at Wellington from New York, via Australian ports and"Auckland. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Rcmuera, which left hero for Lyttelton yesterday, will subsequently proceed to Timaru, Duncdin, the Bluff, Napier, and Wellington to load for Home. From Auckland the Kaikoura goes on to Napier and thenco to Wellington, Lyttelton. Timaru, Port Chalmers, the Bluff, and Wellington to loa.d on behalf of the F. and S. Line for West Coast of England ports. The Navua will be dispatched from Auck-, land for Suva this morning. For the purpose of landing the remainder of her Newcastle coal cargo, the ICamo will arrive at Wellington from Picton today. Newcastle coal will be brought to Wellington by the Karwri on Friday next. A notice to consignees of cargo ex the Mailnganui from Melbourne, and cargo received at Sydney for the Wairuna, appears in this issue. The .cargoes in question liavo been brought to Wellington by the TJlimaroa, which is berthed at the Queen's Wharf No. 6. Continuing hor Journey from Grcymouth, tho Arahura left Wostport at 9 a.m. yesterday for Nelson, Picton, and Wellington. She should arrive in port at the usual time this evening. On account of having been delayed down south, the Union cargo-carrier Taviuni will not leave Wellington for New Plymouth and West Coast ports till September 9. A reporter was informed 'by the local agents for th« F. and S. Line yesterday that all their steamers had now been ln» sured under the British Goernment's .insurance scheme. Instead of undergoing overhaul at Wellington this week as intended, 4t has been decided to dispatch the Kamnvu for Grey- 1 mouth to-day. Consignees of cargo ex tho German-Aus-tralian liner Berlin will be pleased to hear that the vessel, which had been lying down tho harbour at Sydney since August 21, was removed to' a berth in Wool-, loomooloo Bay on August 26 to'discharge. Messrs. Burns, Philp and Company haTO been advised that the N.Y.K. liner Kamano Me.ru has been temporarily withdrawn from the Australian service, and that her sailing .will be taken up by the s.s. Inaba Maru, a larger vessel. Thi6 decision was arrived at in consequence of the laTge amount of freight offering for Australia. The message states that the- Inab Maru was to have left Kobo on Friday, August 28, and sho should arrive at Sydney about September 24. / ' 'Owing to the war, the charter of the Norwegian barque Cairnsmore, 846 tons, to load Westport coal. for the Islands,' has been declared off, and she will now load eua.no at Surprise Island for a Now Zealand port. The schooner John A. Campbell, 462 tons, has been chartered to load lumber at Colombia River for New Zealand ports. A cablegram has been received stating that the Commonwealth and Dominion Lino steamer Whakarua, which loaded ft cargo of wheat at Sydney, arrived at Havre on August 22. Latest advices received from Australia state that the Union Company's chartered steamer Willochra has been withdrawn from commission, and has been laid up at Sydney. Advices by mail state that the purchasers of the steamer Wyandotte, which, by the way, was formerly known as the' Lord Roberts, paid £26,5C0 for her. The Wyandotte is a refrigerator steamer of 4204.t0ns gross, and 2712 tons net register. She was' built at Dumbarton in 1900, with dimensions, 375 ft. by 48.5 ft. by 26.4 ft., and was owned by the British and Argentino Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., London. The vessel is at present at Sydney, and it 'S rumoured has been acquired by 'the Union Company, which has placed her on the loading berth for the Pacific Slope ports.
