MASTERTON NOTES.

Mr. Percy Williams, of Auckland, has been appointed conductor of the Masterton' Municipal Band, and will take up his duties on September 1. Mr. Williams belongs to a well-known family of musicians, and has conducted various bands in the north. One bankruptcy has been recorded in the Wairarapa for the month of August, compared with one for the saine month last year. Hammond, who for many years laboured amongst the Maoris. ' A championship tournament was held by the ladies of the Masterton Golf Club this week. The final was played by Miss Robieson and Mrs.. 6. C. Williams, and resulted in a win for the former by 1 up on the eighteenth hole. The- junior championship was won by Mrs. Harrison, who defeated Miss Payton in the finals. The senior consolation bogy match was won by Miss' Hughes, of Pahititua, and the junior match by Miss Payton. The putting competition was won by Miss D. Booth and Mrs. C.
