Bandalero, who has been off the scene for nearly 12 months, is again in regular work at Hastings and may bo given a race an the Hack Hurdles at the DanN'evirke Meeting en September 9. DaniKvirke is practically the last meeting where owners of steeplechasers can give their horses a race. The open and ,hack steeplechases on this programme have filled particularly well. In the former event ]9 horses have been entered, while in the minor event no tower than 34 horsefl are engaged.
Chortle's good form in the Winter Cup will draw attention to the prospects oi The Summit, who is engaged in tho principal event at Marton. and Dannevirke. At Gisborne Mr. A. White's horse accounted for the Winter Cup winner in the Waikanae Handicap, seven 'urlongs. ■
Speaking, at the annual meeting of the.Manawatu Kncing Clnb on Thursday night, the president, Mr. J. H. P. Strang, said the stakes last year were increased by £1100, maintenance expenditure by £1200, and tho totalisator turnover by £10,912. On the totalisator turnover of £119,735, they Would have to increase the stakes under tho ■rules of racing to about £9000 next year. Now officers elected were: Patron, Mr. D. Buick, M,P.; president, Mr. J, 11. R Strang; vice-presidents, Messrs.- H. ll\ Cooper and J. Goring Johnston; treasurer, Mr. C. Louisson , committee, Messrs. L. Broad, W. Randell, C. A. Loughnan, E. Wood. According to the Auckland "Star," Mr. F. Hall has decided not to send Merry Roe, Bleriot, and.Castalia across to Sydney for the A.J.C. Spring Meeting. Mr. W. S. Dalton has decided to give the 'Wellington Steeplechase winner, Captain Jack; a good rest. Tho son of Captain'Webb has booh thrown out of work, and.is now spelling at his owner's placo. ' : Jack Delaval .was amongst the morning workors at Ellerslie last Saturday, and hit out nicely on the grass track. There is said to be a doubt in Auckland as to whether he will bo sent across to Flomington for the Melbourne Cup. Tho hurdler Gold Pin, who has had a twelve months' holiday, has- arrived back at W. M'Donald's stable at Riccarton. '
