RUGBY
CANTERBURY AND WELLINGTON. One of this afternoon's attractions is tho annual interprovincial Rugby match between teams representing Canterbury' and Wellington. The visitors have been on an extended tour of the north, where they are considered to be one of the strongest' teams representing 'Canterbury for many yeara and this match appears to be the stiffest proposition the' local team has to face this season on their own ground. Three players have been unable' to play in the local team, and these ha,vo Deun replaced by P. J. Ryan, Evenaon, and Fair. The team will take the, field as follows:—Backs: P. J." Ryan, Algar, Beard, Fair, Evenson, Tilyard, Roberts; forwards, liyne, Francis, Wilson, Paton, Miller, Moffitt, Bell, Gilohrist (wing). Mi. L. Simpson has been, appointed referee. I At 1.80 the schools representatives match, between Wellington and Wairarapa, will be played.
I HIGH SCHOOLS TOURNEY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) New Plymouth, August 27. The annual triangular competition between the Napier, Palnierston North, and New Plymouth High Schools opened to-day with a football match between the local High School and Palnierstou North! The Now Plymouth hoys, by superiority in the forwards, notched a victory by 33 points to 5.

Followers of the League code should have an opportunity of witnessing a first-class game on Newtown Park today, when Athletic and Suburbs meet. The result of this match will_ have an important bearing on the senior championship, Should Athletic succeed in defeating Suburbs, and Newtown defeats Petone, a final game will have to be played between Newtown and Suburbs.
