DUNEDTN CARRIERS
MASTERS AND MEN COMPROMISE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dtmedlrt, August 27. A conference has been held between delegates comprising tho executive of the Dunedin Drivers' Union and tho Carriers, and Coal Merchants' Union of Employers. The objcot of the confer-' puce was to consider some proposal to meet tho'serious disorganisation of trade caused by the war. The president of tho master carriers suggested the suspension of Clause 11 of the drivers' award, viz., "In case of drivers other than casual hands a week's notice of dismissal or resignation shall be given by the employer or worker." The delegates of the union agreed to this suggestion, recognising that compromise was necessary, so that all drivers might get a fair share of work. It is understood that as the award is a Dominion one, any proposal agreed to hero would require'the assent of the other centres, and would have to be confirmed by tho Arbitration Court.
