The weights aro published in this. issue, and acceptances close on Tuesday next. On the Victoria, which passed through Wellington yesterday, were the Karaniu 'horses Morecambe, Peary, and Hasknync, also the hurdlo gelding Julian, and a trotter belonging to Trainer A. Nenle. With . his usual pilot Trevithick aboard,'the locally-owned steeplechaser Grit Lawless, set out for a schooling gallop over the big fences at Trentham yesterday, but he had not gone far y.'lien he came down, and his rider was rendered unconscious. Ho was brought into town by the afternoon train, and sent to the Hospital. On inquiry from the Hospital last night he was reported to bo still unconscious and his condition to he rather serious. ■ Autumnus was decidedly lame after a sprinting task on Tuesday with Quarantine", and it is feared that tlie trouble will be serious. Tho seat of the' lameness is m tho off foreleg, which was a source of trouble to him la-st season, and it .will eomo as no surprise to learn that this brilliant galloper will have to go into retirement. Mr. W. E. Bidwill has sold Aviation to a Masterlon owner. Tho chestnut gelding will in future be trained by J. l'hillips at Opaki. -With a'view to helping to swell tho Patriotic Fund, the Masterton- Club has npplied for an extra permit to hold an additional day's racing at the Spring Meeting. . Mr..C. G. Dalgety's mares Stepdancer and Stardancer were shipped to Napier on tho Victoria. They are to visit Afr. G. P. Donnelly's imported sire Demosthenes. It is interesting to ;note that Stepdancer is the dam'of Stardancer. The'.Penary colt Want, a member of J. W. Lowe's Endeavour Lodge stables, na-s the horse most talked of yesterday in Connection with the New: Zealand Uip.
