RUGBY CANTERBURY DEFEAT WAIRARAPA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Masterton, August 27. 11l the representative match. Canterbury v. Wairarapa, played to-day, the visitors outclassed the local men ill all departments, and won by 22 points to nil. Although the scoro was large, the game was fast and interesting. Canterbury did most of tho scoring through the instrumentality of the backs, who were much fasten- than the Wairarapa moil. Only six points wore scored <iu the first -half. In the second spell Wairarapa went to pieces. Tries were scored by M'Leod (2), Cade, Gray, Boag, and Cummins. M'l/eod converted one and Gray one. TARANAKI DEFEAT SOUTHLAND. New Plymouth, August 27. Tho Southland-Taranaki ' Ranfurly Shield match resulted in a win for Taranaki by 6 points to nil. The game may best bo described as a game of lost opportunities, Taranaki haying by far the better' of the play,. but failing to make use of very many apparent chances to score.
