ENTERTAINMENTS
HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. Prominent in tho current programme of vaudeville at His Majesty s Theatre, Courtonay Place, is a startling trapeze act contributed by "The Aerial Barlletts." Then there are "The Four Qoldiuis," a. quartet of Spanish dancers; "The Chipola Twins and Bear," who contribute tiuito a novelty of vaudeville; Phillips and Merritt, the well-known comedians, Gordon and Day, and others.
THE KING'S THEATRE. A splendid attendance greeted last night's screening of that remarkably .fine pictorial reproduction beautiful Maori legend, "Hinomoa." The very excellent acting of Hera Tawhai . in the name part, and the capital support accorded her by a full Maori cast, together with the clear photography of the film, combine- to furnish- a capital entertainment. ' Another _ conspicuously good picture and one .which is received with oheere is "French Army Methods." "A Song at Twilight," charmingly acted, is much admired, whilo "Bo sun's Mate," ono of Jacobs's best comedies, "John Bunny and the Mighty Monarch," and other films make up a programme of unusual merit. There will bo a matinee on Saturday afternoon at 2.30. "EVERYBODY'S PICTURES;" • The fine photo-drama, "Fighting' Blood of 1809, now showing at "Everybody's Pictures" in the Old Opera House, Manners-Street, is a particularly stirring, picture, the etory of which ,is cast iu the time of Napoleon. The Keystone- Company is represented on the programme by one of their absurd comedies, "The Fatal Mallet," 'while there is abundant stimulant for the war fever in- the collection of -topical and naval films being screened. THE EMPRESS THEATRE. In response to numerous requests, tho management of the Empress Theatre continuous piotures has decided to repeat again to-day and to-night the motion picture study of the British Army and Navy entitled "In the King's Service.". The subject affords a complete insight into life in every department of the land and sea forces. There is a capital view of the infantry carrying out manoeuvres as in actual warfaro, and the cavalry i 6 seo\i in a brilliant charge at full gallop. The naval brigade give a display with field guns that again exemplifies the usefulness of the "handy map." A new series of supplementary' pictures will be introduced to-day.
:-. "THE DANDIES." Tlio repertoire of "The Dandies" consiats of twenty-three complete programmes. When this .favourite- company last f-ppeared in Wellington they presented eight programmes during tho season. The return season, which opens in tho Town Hall Concert .Chamber next Monday evening, will sorve to introduce two further programmes. Several concerted items will be introduced amongst them being a' selection from Bnlfo's popular opera "The Boiiemian Girl." Mr. Roland Henry, the lead-' ihg comedian of "The Dandies,", will bo heard' in a new budget of humorouscharacter studies. The plan. is now open at the Dresden \ HARRY LAUDER. In presenting Harry Lauder, the Messrs. J. and N. Tait are directing one of the moat expensive theatrical enterprises which has ever Visited New" Zealand, and although the namo .of the famous comedian should' be sufficient draw, ;.the: firm has organised an assisting- 'cohip'any o'f'aftißts'of-international repute, who, according to, Australian critics, are worthy associates of the :'star." The Hungarian Gipsy Cym--balist, Irene Bprcenys, assisted by Yoska, the Hungarian violinist, presents a refreshingly original musical turn. A most sensational act is provided by tho Three Hassans, who perform many daring acrobatic feats with bicycles on the high wire, and the trio are also dis-i ciples of the terpsichorean art; these artists wore starring/at the Winter Gardens, Berlin, when engaged forOtho Harry Lauder toun A ballad singer from tho Queen's and Royal Albert Hall, London, is Miss Kitty Ryan, whoso interpretations' of Irish ballads aro highly spoken ,of. ' Somo years ago the game of diabolo was all the rago, and in Jack Ark. we have an export who, it is stated, gives a wonderful display of diabolo juggling. Ernest Sowell, living mariohettist, from St. George's Hall, London, has been honoured with , Royal command performances before the late King ' Edward. An entertainer from tho London Coliseum, Selwyn Driver, in humour at the piano, is another artist favoured with Royal patronage "■ The musical director,, Horace Sheldon, from the famous London Palladium, created much attention in Australia by the excellent manner in which he conducts the nuemonted orchestra under his care. With Harry Lauder at the head of such a company tho. public should have an excellent bill of fare presented to thorn.The box plan opens at the Dresden on Monday. SUNDAY CONCERT. 'Tho programme to be submitted at the fifth concert of the season' by tho Wellington' Professional Orchestra next Sunday should prove a popular one. The principal items will be the famous "Tannhauser 11 overture (Wagner) and Friedeinann's "Slavonic Rhapsodic," whioh was 60 well received'at the orchestra'? first concert. Other items will bo a- fantasia on Bizet's opora, "Garmen," Thomas's "Mignon'' gavotte,' and a Grand March Triumphalo from Verdi's "Aida.'>. Mr. Herbert Bloy will conduct.. A silver coin collection will be made at the doors.
