EKFURNISHED AND DECORATED. .;._OI11 Saturday,next the New, Theatre, 111 Manners' Street, will open its doors once wire to the picture-ldving public. Mr. Charles MacMahon has secured a seven .years' lease of'the theatre,. and to.bring it up-to-date lias, at- considerable expense, completely transformed tlio somewhat srun-down premises. Tiio walls of thb auditorium of the compact littlo theatre have been entirely replastered and made artistically pleasing .to the eye by a chaste and beautiful scheme of decoration—clearly painted scenic and floral panels against a ! background of pale green, which gives tlio theatre, from the roof to the floor, a refreshingly, .bright appearance. This is enhanced by a new proscenium frame ol fluted gold, with cleverly designed panels in complete harmony with the general scheme. Tlio whole of . the theatre lias'been fitted with comfortable .iron-framed'tip-u» seats, upholstered.in red plush. The rummers down each aisle and on the stairway leading to the gallery also boast the same warm tint. Ingeniously-placed electric liplits will guide the steps of those wishing fo find seats' when the hall lights are out. The entrance, which • ba.s also been artistically decorated, will be a blaze of electric jight, and . the exterior illumination will be on the same lavish scale. Thn decoration work lias been carried out by Mr. Hitchinson (partner of Mr. Geo. Coulter, of Sydney); the seats were supplied by Mr. W. H. Edwards; Messrs. Foley'and Son did the- plastering; Messrs. Totley and Son are responsible for' the electric installation; and Messrs. Doherty and Co. supplied the carpets. Mr. MacMahon has made arrangements for a supply of the very best pictures from tho Eraser Film Company, whose agency for New Zealand is in his hands.
