A FOUR-DAY WEEK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Taihape, August 26. At a meeting of the Rangitikei Geno- \ ral Co-operative Timber Company, a > general shortage of orders was reported, '. and it was decided to work.a four-day . week in all mills under.the company's "• jurisdiction, in order to as far as possible keep all the mill workers going. The company controls some sixty mills on tho Main Trunk line and elsewhere,' and had the alternative of dischassiuß a third of the men or making the above arrangement. Over 500 men have been thrown out of employment. A.numbor of smaller mills independent of the company have shut down altogether. ■
