He was born at Highcliff,; Ventnor, in the Isle of 'Wight, in "1842, j and arrived in the Dominion by the sail-: ins-ship Wild Duck, in 1862, after a) voyage of over three months. The de-..j ceased was for many years engaged' in sheep-farming in the Hawko's Bay,; and Otaki districts.
