i The St. John Ambulanca Brigade. • Thero' was aa attendance of over 80 as a meeting of tho Wellington Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigado hold on Monday night, when, tho following proposals were brought forward by the Deputy Commissioner:— (a) That an eii'ort should be made to raise a sum of money which could ho remitted to tho headquarters, of the Brigado Ovorseas at St. John's Gate for the purchase of ambulance and hospital stores for. use in connection with the troops on active service. (b) That members of, nursing divisions and the lady friends of members of both ambulance and nursing divisions'' should give their services in the preparation of articles of clothing for tho uso .of tho poor and destitute, and that such articles should be forwarded to St. John's Gate as a contribution from the brigade in this Dominion. . After considerable discussion, it was decided, in view of the probable,urgent need for assistanco amongst our own poor, \ that it was not advisable to send contributions out of tho Dominion. There, was no lack of enthusiasm or offers to assist in this direction by the lady, members present, but at the same time the feeling- was' ventilated ,that the St. John Ambulance Brigade' had not been properly treated by the Defence pcopls in tho preaonfc crisis.. In fact, it was felt they bad been ignored altogether by the Department, and such work as the providing and filling of ambulance hampers . 'and chests was given to private persons—this in face of the fact that the brigade was accopted as a section of the, National Reserve. Feildirig Notes. Owing to the war and so many of our iccal men volunteering, the batchelors' and Golf Club balls have been postponed; also all private gaieties. The ladies are all busy sewing and collecting for.'the men, and although the, weather is perfect the golf links are entirely neglected and the picture shows poorly patronised. Mrs. Fry has returned from Wellington. Mrs. Mackay is staying with Mrs. Fry.' Misses Haybittle (2) are 'enjoying a holiday in Australia. • Miss Murdoch (Napier) has returned to her homo. . The death occurred at Foatherston yesterday of Mrs. John Cundy. relict of tho late Mr. John Cundy. The deceased had resided in tho district for many.years and was much respected for her kindly qualities. Thero are two dauh'htors (Mrs. C. J. Carlyo'n), arid Miss Nellie Cundy, and ouo' son, Mr. C. R. Cundy. Tho engagement, is announced of Miss Sybil Carmichacl, daughter of Mr. Allan Carmichacl, late of "AVairoto," Southland, to Mr. A. H. Hawk, of the Bank of Australasia, Feilding. Several, of the guests staying at < 'Jienilworth",'are members of the Expeditionary Force, and last evolving a farewell, dance was given in their honour. Miss Borlase and her pupils have forwarded to Mrs. J. E, Fulton £2 10s., to bo spent upon hot-water bottles for tho ambulance equipment. A private cablegram has been received announcing the death of Mrs. Richard Teece, wife of the general manager and. actuary of the Australian Mutual Pro■vident Society,. The deceased lady had been in .ill-health for some time, aiid her death was therefore not unexpected. She possessed a charming personality, and had many friends in this Dominion. Mrs. It. Gillies and tho 'Misses Gillies havo arrived in Wellington from Auckland. Mr. and Mr. Frank Rhodes motored through from Rotorua to Napier on Sunday and are spending a few days with Dr. Moore. On Saturday tho marriage took place in St. Michael's Church, Christchurch, of Lieutenant Harold Edwin Temple, of A Company, ;st (Canterbury) Infantry Regiment, New, Zealand Expeditionary Forco, to Miss Muriel Blanche Luttreli,' daughter of Mr. A.
