He was accompanied by Mrs. Sykes and his young daughter, Miss V. Sykes. Mr. W. R. Howard is acting postmaster at Featherston in- place of Mr. D. Macdonald, who is on the sick list. Mr. Macdonald was reported to ba slightly better yesterday. ! Mr. Lewis Alexander Hammerton, who died at Inglewood last .week, at the age of 82 years, arrived in Taranaki in the ship Cashmere, sixty years.ago.A cable message has been received stating that Major Hamilton (late New Zealand Defence Forces), who married the daughter of Mr. Charles Elgar, of Featherston, has been promoted to the rank of Major of the Grenadier Guards, which regiment is now on active serviceon tho'.f rentiers of France. Mr. Kenneth Hoby, second son of Mr. Arthur Hoby, of Wellington; was a passenger from Cape Town by, the Remuera yesterday after an absence oJ nearly eight years in Johannesburg.
