Wedding at Trentliam. | "On August 12, at St. John's Church, Troutham, _ the marriago took place of Miss Charity Downing, third (laughter <)f Mr. and Mi's. John Downing, "Parkfield," Wallaceville, to Mr. Maurice llnsmussen, eldest son of Mr. P. Rq6mussen, of Stairway. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of white brocaded satin, trimmed with lace. Tlio bridssmaids were Miss Hatlfield and two little nieces of the bride, Miss, Girlie and Miss Betty Parker. "The elder bridesmaid was in a cream laoe frock, and the.little girl in white voile over silk. The bridegroom was attended by Mr., Gilbert Downing as best man. The bride and bridegroom left by, motor for Hawke's Bay. The bride's mother wore a costume of black crepe 'de chine, and black hat with plumes. ■ Ambng the guests were Mr. and /Mrs. Bi'ice Barker, Mr. and Mrs. Whitoman, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt, Mrs. and Miss Foiuvick (Masterton), Mrs. Dick. A considerable amount of activity is; being at the present time manifested by the ■ various ambulance and nursing divisions .of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Although formed in the first placo as a civil organisation, yet one of the functions .of the brigade is to render assistance to the military authorities in .time of need, And it / is- in connection .with the preparation for this phase of its work that the energies of the ambulancers arid nursing Bisters are at the present time directed. The Defenco Department has recognised the brigade as' tlie organisation .to '• which it, will look for assistance and has agreed;to accept it as.the ambulance section' 1 of ..the newly-formed National Reserve. . The brigade,'has. large and valuable equipment, and this will if required be placed absolutely at the disposal of the military forces.

Welsby heading tho list with 98 marks,(outibf the 100 possible), with Miss Edna Newcombe well up with 89. The others who passed were: Miss Agnos Parland and the Misses Sylvia Bums, Isabel M'Callum, Dorothy Mitchell, Nesta Moore, Jessie Sclater, and Mr. Henry Samuel M'Dougall Sanson. Most of the candidates were students-.of Dr. Pattie's class at St. Mark's Home, Karori, and. showed signs of careful preparation In the practical work in iwliich the lecturer was ably seconded by Miss Olive Bennett, a lhedalliohist, who was .unremitting in her attendances at the St. Mary's Home course. - •• ■ . Robinson (chief), was held in Victoria Hall, Newtown, last evening, in aid of tho WarTmid, and judging by. the attehdaticej'the object for which the flancp.had boe'n..promoted should benefit to qiiito a satislactory amount. Flags in profusion decora ted ..the hall, almost completely enveloping the stage, and. a frieze of lycopodium, entwined with the red, white and bluej which is now a part of our daily life, varied the effect of the flags on.the walls, as well as adding a light, and dainty . appearance to the room. Madame Foley, iis well as placing the hall at the disposal of the committee, also played some of the dances, 'her kindness being much appreciated. Tho Mayor and ; Mayoress were present for part of the evening. The committee was formed- by Messrs. H. Woodward, J. Thompson, A. Jones, C. Flattery, H. Welbourn, B. Starr, T:\Folan, J. Hill, and O.
