COST OF ELECTRIC POWER
REDUCED THIS MONTH. The accounts for electrical .Leat and power that are being issued by the Electric Department of the City Council this month are based on the new scale of cost recently passed by the City Council—a reduction that is calculated to , bo a very substantial one in tho caso of consumers of any quantity of electrical energy either for beating purposes or as power. Consumers have up to tho present month been paying 4d. per unit, with a 25 per cent, discount (equal to a penny a unit) for the first 20 units, and thereafter 2Jd. per unit (a discount of ljd. per unit). For current consumed in August and henceforth consumers are only being charged 2d. per unit, with a 25 per cent, reduction if the account is paid within fourteen days after tho "meter is read. This means that all who pay up promptly will got electrical energy for heat or power at lid. per unit—the cheapest rate over offered in Wellington, and possibly New Zealand.
