THREE-DAY FIGHT AT LYCK

St. Petersburg, August 21. , After three days' fighting the Russians captured Lyck, n town of 11,000 inhabitants in East Prussia, 112 miles south-east of Konigsberg, aud near the Russian frontior. BUKOVINA ENTERED. v GERMANS BEING CLEARED FROM POLAND. (Hoc. August 21, 10.50 p.m.) Paris, August 21. The vicinity of Warsaw, the capital of Russian Poland, lias been cleared of Germans for a radius of 64 miles. The Russians entered the Austrian Duchy of Bakovina last Saturday. Bukovina is a duchy and Crownland of Austria, bounded on fhe east by Russia and Rumania, on the south by Rumania, on the west by Hungary and Transylvania, and on tli© north by Galicia. The country, especially in the Eonth, is occupied by offshoots of the Carpathians, which attain an altitude of over 6000 feet. The,principal passes m tlie ranges aro the Radna Pass and the Borgo Pass. Nearly half the total of 4035 square miles is occupied by beech woodlands. BRUSHES-ON THE FRONTIER, St. Petersburg, August 20. The attack on Vladimir Volynsk, twenty miles in Russian Poland, north' oF Lemberg, was desperato. There were repeated assaults all day. Only two out of an Austrian company survived. It is alleged that the Austrians used explosive bullets. The Red Cross are retaining samples of the missiles. , The Russian Outposts near Lumßk defeated an 'Austrian patrol, wounding 60 and'capturing 120. ' >- London, Augiit 20. It i 6 officially stated that tho Russian cavalry repulsed an Austrian cavalry division with heavy losses near Sataiioff, on the Podolian frontier, about 110 miles south-east of Lemberg. The engagement lasted five liours. St.. Petersburg, August 20. The Russians occupied Gumbinnen, in Eastern Prussia, twenty-two miles from the Russian frontier on the line to Konigsberg. They captured twelve guns and .taking many prisoners. THE RISING IN PRACUE. AUSTRIAN REPRISALS. ' St. Petersburg, August 20. Tlie newspaper "Novoe Vromya's" Kieff correspondent states'that letters received from Bohemia assert that during reprisals following tho uprising in Prague, tho- finest monuments in the city were destroyed and shops pillaged _ by tho .Austrians. . A further uprising two days later was followed by further- reprisals. A SURPRISE ATTACK. COSSACK LOSSES. (Rec. August 21, 6.3 p.m.) /> - Vienna, August 20, Galieian troops in a night attack surprised a thousand Cossacks at Mjechow, in Russian Poland, thirty-five miles north of Cracow. Hie Cossacks lost 400 men and the Galicians, who lost 140, occupied Mjecliow. AUSTRIANS' HASTY RETREAT..
ATTACK ON KRASNIK FAILS. r St. Petersburg, August 20. An official message states that three Austrian infantry regiments and four batteries of artillery attacked Krasuik; , m 'Russian Poland, fifteen miles north of tho Austrian frontier. The fisrht lasted all day. The Russians were reinforced and captured six officers and 250 men. The Austrians hastily retreated at night, after suffering severe losses. ALL AUSTRIANS CALLED UP. (Rec.
