BRAWL IN A HOTEL

FREE FIGHT AMONGST FIREMEN. A brawl in which about a dozen firemen from various eliips in port wore concerned, and which resulted in two of the participants being arrested, occurred in tho bar of the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel shortly after nino o'clock last night. . The trouble ' originated through the barman and a hotel official endeavouring to removo an obstreperous seaman from tho bar. Some- of his mates came to his rescue and a serious riot was threatened. A hurried search was made- for the constable on the beat, and the police wero telephoned for. By the time the police arrived the riot had developed into a free fight, hasty blows being given and received. Shortlv before" half past nine Constable Geordine arrived on the sceno and 'lie received rough handling from the brawlers before additional police arrived. The fight was transferred to the street, aud after some difficulty two firemen wero arrested. They wore Walter Eurrains, who will be charged "with assaulting a constable, and Maurice Murphy who will be charged with obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty. Both will appear in tho Magistrate's Court this morning. One of thoso arrested was only secured after an exciting chase down the street and when captured his bleeding condition testified to his activity iu the fray.
