PUBLIC SERVICE PROPOSAL
'A DAY'S PAY.. The Public Service Journal states that at a meeting of the permanent heads of the Public.Service, convened by the Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, it was decided to submit the following proposal to each Department, to act as it saw fit: — "That members of each Department be invited to contribute one day's salary for the mouth of August to the War Fund. All contributions to be voluntary. Contributions for Soptemher or succeeding months if required to be considered later." The Journal stresses the fact that there is no suggestion of compulsion and that tho matter of contributing is entirely a voluntary ono. It adds: — "An appeal might be made to your self-interest in tho protection of: your country ■. against foreign invasion and a consequent material loss, but it is thought that a higher motive will govern your action at this juncture. It is hoped that you will subscribe to this fund not. only to the extent of what you can conveniently sparo, but something in addition whioh will ontail a real personal sacrifice, so that you may havo tho satisfaction of knowing that in your circumstances you have done all that might be oxpectcd of you. Ib is desirable that the Public Service organisation should set an example to other organisations that may be worthy of emulation,'<
