NOTES AND COMMENTS IBr Omsncoi.i The steeplechaser Silver Monarch and tho hack Charlerose arrived hack from Lyttelton yesterday. It is reported that Mr. E. S. Luttvell gave 800 guineas for Red Book when he purchased him last month. Mr. A. B. Williams, owner of Chortle and Multiply, was anxious to buy the half-brother to Blue- Book, but he was too late. Several horses met their death at lliccarton last week. Sir Lethe and Gregory both died on the eve of the meeting, Bugle broke bis neck wbilo contesting the Enfield Steeplechase, The Spaniard dropped dead during the running of the Beaufort Steeplechase on' Thursday, and Otehau broke his neck at tho big brush fence at'G'utts's while the Aylesbury Steenlechaso was being run.' ' . ' .There is a, likelihood of tbo steeplechaser Silver MoUargh being sent across, to Sydney to compete, at tho Australian Jockey Club's spring meeting. Bon Ton, Bon Reve, Anna Carlovna, and Moonbria are among the horses left in the Caulficld Cup after tho first acceptances. The same horses, with the addition' of Cherubini, Sir SolOj and Jack Delaval, 'also figure in the Melbourne Cup. ■ The Programme Committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club is evidently not' in sympathy with tho recent alteration to hack conditions, as the programme tor the .'spring meeting adheres to the old definition, restricting the,se events to horses that have'not won .a race of tho value-of 100 soys., or races of the collective value of 250 sovs. The new rule extends tho ; :valuo of a race tolSOsovs., and tbo total to 400 sovs. Mr. H.
