THE HON. T...Y. DUNCAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) .Oamaru, August ,18. The Hon. T. Y. Duncan died at 10 o'clock this morning, aged seventyeight. ' j... [The late Mr. Duncan was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1836, and was' educated at the local national School. He was brought up as a fai> mef, but on , arriving in Victoria in 1858 ho became a gold miner, an o;> oupation which he also followed in Otago. In 1864 ho settled atPuketiri, Oamaru, where "he remained until his dbath. He took'a prominent part in local affairs, and was much respected. Iα 1881 he was elected to represent Oamaru in the House of Representatives, and became Minister for Lands in the Soddon Cabinet after the death pf Sir John' M'Konzio. At the last General Election he was defeated by Mr. Lee, but later on he was called to the Upper House. His family consists of three daughters and a son.] Parliament, when it resumes on August 26, will bo invited to adjourn as a mark of respect to the momory of the late Mr. Dunoan. Flags oi the Government Buildings were half-masted yesterday, when the news of Mr. Duncan's death arrived, and at Parliament Buildings' many expressions of regret were heard at the removal of a veteran Parliamentarian, who was esteemed and respected by" his follow, members of all parties.
