FIRES

By a fire, which occurred between 9 and 10 on Sunday morning, a five-roomed house (No. 21), was completely gutted, and another (No. 23) partially damaged at Queen's Drive, Maranui, at the corner of Cockburn Street. Tho houses were, the property of Mr. J. J. Boyd, of Kilbirnie, and were occupied respectively bv Messrs T. J. Page and Mines. The outbreak was duo to a boil-over in course of the preparation of breakfast. Both houses are believed to have been insured in the Victoria Insurance Company for J8250 each, and the oontents of No, 21 were insured for .£125 in the Queensland Of-, lice. Tho suburban fire brigade was in attendance and effected a good save of the second house.
