N.Z. SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS
ANNUAL REPORT; The annual report of the New Zealand Society of Accountants gives the membership as 1907, a net decrease, of 59 for the year. As stated in last' report, the continued decrease in the membership was not by any means unexpected, many of the persons who were admitted to membership by tho Registration Board constituted under the Act having no intention of continuing past the first few years. As these persons allow their membership to lapse, their places are being gradually filled by others who have qualified under the examinations conducted by the University of New Zealand on behalf of the society; the alteration in the constitution of the membership thus tending to i strengthen the society as years go by. 1 "All candidates for tho professional examinations are now called upon to produco certificates that they have previously passed;cither the Senior Publio Service examination or the matriculation examination of tho University of New Zealand; but as from the end of the. year 1915 the only certificate recognised will be that of the matriculation examination of the University of New Zealand. "At. its February meeting the council considered several complaints as to (a) the length of certain of the examination papers, and (b) as to printers' and other errors therein. After full inquiry is was found that these complaints were in some cases justified, and the council approached the Senate of the University of Now Zealand conveying the resolution passed at its February meeting, and also forwarded a copy of such letter and resolution to each of the examiners. It is not anticipated that there will be any ground for complaint in this respect in the future. '•" "The Investigation Committee investigated a number of complaints during the year with the following result;— One member was struck off the register for discreditable conduct; one member was suspended for a period of two years for negligence in professional work j one member was disrated in status for negligence; four • members were censured in connection with the issue of unprofessional circulars. ' ~..■■■ "Daring the last session of Parliament ah amending Act was passed granting the council power to defer tho acceptance of a resignation of any member against whom a charge for unprofessional conduct ivas pending. The council at the same time' endeavoured to secure a further amendment to the Act, with a view to preventing non-members of the society practising the profession of accountancy, but in this effort they were unsuccessful. "At the invitation of. the Dunedin members, the council decided to hold the fifth annual meeting in Dunedin. The date of the meeting has been fixed for August 26." .
