Mr. Archibald J Eiiindo, the mauager, made the presenfa- ! tion, and strewed the gravity of the.occaeion which had evoked such a splendid response from the youni? men of the ' 'country.' Ho tmstod that thoy would acquit themselves with credit to their manhood and .their'.country, and. in. tho '. end ba spared to return spfo and sound. (AppTauso and cheers.) Alr. : A; Lovott, of the head office staff : of tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., who has volunteered ; niid been acoepted for the Expeditionary Force no« about to leave, was yesterday presented by' his fellow officers with a 1 parting gift' in the shape of pipes and ' other smoker's requisites. In making tho '■ presentation, Messrs. F. R. Russell and ! Clarke Johnson expressed the good wishes ■ of the staff, and the hope that Mr. Levett 1 w<'\ild do excellent service foi his coun- ; try and the Empire. Mr. Levett respond- ' c<l briefly with thanks, and assurances that ho would do his best. Miss Brandon, who has been editing i the women's page of our morning contemporary for the past year, and who, as ; oneiof the trained nurses who have been selected to accompany the' first contmi gent of the Expeditionary Force, is' severing her connection temporarily, with ■ that paper, was the recipient last evening of a surgical case from her confreres on . the staff. tionary Force, was given a hearty' farewell at tho Savago Club on Saturday evening, whore, during the supper' adjournment, his health was drink on' the call of Mr. James Dykes (secretary), who referred to Mr. .Kenny's many qualities as tin entertainer, and a'man, which sentiments found a spontaneous echo in every Savage breast. Mr. Kenny will bo sadly missed in musical circles. Besides being, tho musical director of the Savage. Club, he is the conductor of tho Wellington Operatic Society, and the honorary accompanist to the Wellington Liedertafol. He had intended to leave for London at tho end of the month, but now he is off under circumstances very remote fromHhoso anticipated. Tho Johnsonvillo contingent of the sth Rgiment forming part of the Expeditionary Force, under Lieut.-Oolonel Turner, were farowelled in Moore Bros.'a Hall last night. Captain F. T. Moore presided. Patriotic speeohes were made by Major Bethunoi Captain Moore, Lieut. Sloane, Lieut. Jerusalem, and Messrs. W. L. Thompson, A. J. May, and R. Bould. The Johnsonvillo Band played a number of litems, "Rule Britannia" and the ' Marseillaise" being' sung audience. Mr. Wilson, of Johnsonvl&\ offered the free use of his hall to thW military authorities. ' The inhabitants of the township are subscribing to' o> fund for the purchase of horses.. At the Jewish Club last evening a farewell supper was given to , Sergeant Asher and Gunner Lev}-, both of the D Batj tery, and to several other members of the club who Have joined the Expeditionary Force..'. Several short speeches were made br the chairman (Mr. Zachanah) and other members of the 'club. During the evening the .two -guests were each presented with a gold wrist watch. _ The: Petone .Working Men's Club last evening tendered a "send-off" to four of its members, Messrs. E. Smyrk, J. Bernstein, J. Isaacs, and D. Collins, who are going on active service with the Expeditionary Force, -u. e At a meeting of the committee ,of Messrs. C. and A. Odlin's staff last evening a presentation of .a six-chambered Colt automatic revolver was made to Mr. Herbert Hyde, a member of the office staff who is leaving with 'the advance guard of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
