Steel. . > The death occurred at Featherston yesterday morning of Mr. James Crawford, aged 65, widely known, <ia licensee of the Royal Hotel from 1897 till last year. He came to New Zealand from his birthplace, Edinburgh, 50 years ago, and resided at Lower Hutt and Wellington before settling in* Featherston. He was patron of various local institutions, and well known for his generosity... He was elected a commissioner of the town district in the'early part of this year, and had been in ill-health for some months. Mr. Fielder,is an Associate of the Royal Sanitary Institute, nnd holds a number of certificates for . building construction and plumber's work.! He was engaged in England for some time us a pupil teacher, and as clerk to a firm of engineers, and has seTyed eleven years In the execution and supervision of sanitary work in England,' France, Germany, Switzerland; as well as New Zealand. He has erected many scaffolds, and has lately held an appointment as an inspector under the Public Health Act. Mr. Burgess has had an extensive commercial experience m England and New Zealand, and has had under his supervision workrooms and. large numbers of persons employed in factories and shops. He is a competent bookkeeper, and has a; knowledge of commercial law and accountancy. • On Saturday evening the death occurred of Mr. Henry Richardson Roe, formerly a writer, well known to the Press of New Zealand, and father of Mrs. A. E. Kernot, of Wellington, herself a writer of some note. Mr. Rae was quite well about six weeks ago. The . deceasel was born in Dublin, Ireland, 80 years ago, his father being a solicitor in the Government cmploy. He was educated at the NutgroVe Academy, spent his youthful years < .in County Kerry, and came out to Australia some sixty year 9 ago. In Victoria ho became a journalist of note, a reputation which followed him to New Zealand nearly a quarter of 1 a century ago. He Vrote a series of very bright articles for the Auckland "'Graphic'' under the nom do guerre of "The Autocratio Idler," and.for the "Canterbury Times" nnder the penname of "Australasian RambleT.
