A meeting -of the Uouiicil of the Chamber of Commerce received a letter from the Union Company, stating it believes the present service provides amply for all the trade from Auckland to tlie Islands, and cannot see sufficient inducement to run a separate service to Tonga, returning direct to Auckland.

, Mr. Henderson said he was sure the Tonga, Government would be prepared to extend concessions to any independent firm entering the trade.
