The City Council has now agreed to submit ; loan proposals to tho publia concerning an amount of £365,585 foryv various .city improvements, tramways, and a tunnel through Mount Victoria. In duo course a statutory meeting will be called by the' Mayor to explain the proposals, after which a date will be fixed for thn taking of tho poll. - When questioned as to what would be the fate of the loan shotild England become involved in' the war which at present threatens tho whole of Europe, ■ the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) stated that it would probably mean_ that- such a sum'of money would be difficult to raisi for another five years 'to come. In the meantime they would all hope sincerely that the Empire will not become involved. • .'• ..
