A deputation from tho Wnitomo County Council, consisting of Messrs. A. Scholes (chairman) and G. Barry, waited on tho Minister of Public Works (tho Hon. W. Frasor) yesterday in regard to a scheme that is being pro- \ motod by the council for the construction of a light railway lino from To Kuiti to Rio Rio and beyond that point. Mr. Scholes asked that the Miumstcr should allow a Government surveyor to make an estimate ef the lino in order that the settlers would have a definite proposition to go upon. Mr. Frasor said that he would givo t'lie matter careful consideration. Ho was obtaining data in regard to other light railways that were being put in hand and in a few months' time he would bo in a better position to give a definite answer. He would grant ,tho council tho services of one or his engineers, and would give all possible informal tion. The Minister also agreed to give a subsidy of 10s. in the £ on tho loan of £1500 which is to ba axpeuded on , tho main road between Te Kuiti aud Tauraarunui.
