REFORM CAMPAIGN.

IN OTAKI ELECTORATE. ; — 1 One of the largest political meetings held in Waikanae for many years took place on Tuesday, evening in the schoolhouse. There were close on one hundred electors,present, including a largo proportion' of ladies. The object of tho •meeting .was to consider the matW of forming a branch of the New Zealand Political' Reform League, and to hear a political ;'address from the organiser of the paijty, Mr. J. Silvester, was voted to_ the chair, and in a brief address pointed out the need .for combined action, iif view of the .approaching: election. The attendance that evening was a record for the district, and at the same time it indicated'that tlip people of the district were behind the' Reform Party. Mr. A. A. Pdape, organiser, was well; received, and in an address which lasted for an hour and a half, gave an exhaustive resume of the work of the Eeform Government since they came into power, and more particularly, with 'the more important reforms that had been placed on the Statute Book. 'It was resolved, on-the-motion of-Mr. H. Bond, and seconded by Mr. W. Rickards, that a branch of the -Now Zealand Eeform league be formed in Waikanae. There was one discordant 'vote. ; A very strong band of - workers was enrolled. The following officebearers were elected:—President, Mr. J. Silvester; vice-presidents, /' Messrs. H. Bond, G. Tully, S. Duncan; secretary, Mr. A. G. Williams; committee, .Messrs. W. Eickard, Alex. Monk, Walter Hart, F. A. Evans, T. Brown, W." Mi Cleland, F. Coe. ■ The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the organiser for his ablo and interesting address, and also to the chairman for presiding, and for making the preliminary arrangements for the .meeting.
