RISE IN WAGES
FOR WHARF' LABOURERS,
Official notification of the raising of i.tlio average wage for men employed on the wharf, from not less than £2 8s; per week to not. less'than £2 10s., lias been received by Mr. E. J. Jones, secrotary of the .Wellington Wharf 'Labourers' Union, from Mr. W; I'rvor, actingsecretary of tie Wellington Co-operative Waterside Labour Employment Association.. This is resultant on a request recently made by the former'' body to the latter association. Intimation 'has ' also been received by. the Union from Mr. l'ryor, as follows:— "At a meeting of. the committee of thii association, held yesterday, I was instructed to acknowledge receipt of your letter of July - 9, and to advise you:" , (1) _ That it is the. intention of the association, to keep a register of recognised waterside employees and that a copy of the register will bo supplied to the union. The'cssociation reserves to itself the right to increase or decrease the number of names on the register, as circumstances may,arise. (2) That it 'will" be the aim of the members of. the .association to provide sufficient work on the terms and condi-
tions specified by the existing industrial agreement to ensure, as far as possible, that during the. year every man on the register niay earn an average of not less than £2 10s. per week."
