ARRIVAL OF DELEGATES

Thirty-eight British and other delegates, who are to attend the Advancement of Science Congress; have arrived by\ the steamers Malwa and- Ascanius. The late arrival of the vessels upset the arrangements for an official reception, which had to ,be postponed. Professor Herdman, however, made a record by reaching Perth in time to deliver his announced lecture on "Why we .Investigate .the Ocean?" his Excellency the Governor presiding. There was a packed audience. The visitors are located in the homes of local scientists,. prior to scattering over the State for'scientific excursions. 'During the voyage out experiments in marine., biology were carricd out. While taking photos aboard the ■Ascaiiius, Dr. Ostenfeld fell and broke his log in three pkcos.
