Against the | white walls, the festoons of bluo drap't ery, alternating at wide intervals with J panels of pink, and festoons of flower- { studded lycopodium, looked very lHit | and artistic, while from corner to cornei 2 or the main room were swung ropes at I podium and flowers. Branches of | foliage and baskets of flowers struck a " relieving note against the-walls, and' one » corner of the room was cosily furnished . & for tho comfort of the chaperoncs. The 5 ante-room, carpotcd and furnished with b couches and comfortable chairs, and de- § corated with foliage and flowers, offers ed many attractions for sitting-out. The samo'decorath-o effect of lycopodium ! and pink and wliito flowers was to be | seen 111 the upper room, and the tables I wero arranged with bowls and vases of | wattle and. narcissi. The staff dance is § a popular one, and if anything the room j was a trifle crowded on that account | for, danqing, while the music of Cows' ley's Orchestra made an irresistible anS ' peal to daucers. Parliamentary duties; The chaperones i present were Mrs. J.- Duthie, jmi., whe i wore a gown of white .satin, with an .overdress of black embroidered, net • J| Mrs. Rigg, in emerald greon eharmeuse' m with' an over-dresß of jet embroidered E netj.and Mrs. Harper, in a handsome | | black and white gown. The committee, a who. left no stono unturned in their ef- | forts' to secure the enjoyment of their guests, was-formed by Miss Lindsay, who was wearing pale blue crepe de chine, trimmed' witli 'point- 1 laoe, and a rose pink waist-belt;' Mils Grant, in white crepe de chine, ( ,with ■ laeo j Miss Levy, black-velvet ; Miss Ronnie, white silk and lace; Messrs. Andrews, Beniams,. Jones, Legg, Lockett, Pollock, Ritchie, Thompson, Turnbull, and Walton. The secretary was Mr. B. L. Zoro;'and the M:G:'s Messrs.- Andrews, Pollock, and Walton. Many pretty frocks were worn, and the colour effects in the hall were very charming. It seems- impossiblo to bring out fresh shades of colour, and yet every yoar sees something new in colour tones. An excellent supper was provided by Mrs. Oscar- Johnston. Instead of the annual supper, which is given at Victoria College for the women graduates of the year, a luncheon will be given in the; Victoria Colloge gymnasium, on September 4, for the' visiting lady members of the ~ British Association for tho | mont of Science, as well as tile graduates. In all, it is, expected that there will be cldso upon eighty guests at the luncheon and as mpy bq imagined the event will be. a notable One in the history of collego gatherings with so manv distinguished visitors present. . It'is' worthy of note -that two of Lady Godley's challenge cups of last yoar were won by. Sounds boys when cadets at Nelson College, the Winners being Private Masefield (No. 1 Com-pany),:-and Sergeant E; M. Stacc (No.' a Company).
