"FIRST THINGS FIRST." A meeting was held on Monday afternoon,' in Dunedin, of the Central Conimitteb of tho Bible-in-Stato-Schools Lcaguo for tho Otago piovince, and was attended also by tho Central Committee of tho Women's League, lhe Primate, Bishop Neville, was ill tho chair. On tho motion of the Rev. Graham Balfour, minister of First Church, Dunedin, supported by Dean Fitehott, a resolution was carried of unity with the demonstration to bo held that night in Wellington, and pledging.tho.continuation of enthusiastic support to the cause of Bible in schools. Tho resolution gave further pledges "to put first tilings first" at the coining general election, and to accept no surrender. Tho resolution also expressed admiration of Canon Garland's great work, and their utmost confidence in him as leader. Tho president of tho Auckland Central Committee has «eut a telegram _of congratulation upon the successful-'de-monstration in Wellington on Monday night, and promising to the cxccutivo the loyal support of tho Auckland province. ' RESOLUTIONS OF APPRECIATION. ■ Resolutions expressing appreciation of the action of the Government in introducing the Referendum Bill and calling on tho member for tho district to' sup-; port the Bill as introduced have been passed by the Temploton Sanctuary Gutid; a public meeting held in the Institute Hall, Rangiora; the Mothers' Union at New Brighton; the Congregation of Holy Trinity Church,. Lyttelten; tho Prcbbleten Branch of the Church of England Men's Society; the Hinds and Rakaia • branches of tho Bible-in-State-Schools League; the Bible-iu-Schools Committee of Waikari; a meeting of the Canterbury-Westland Central 'Committee; a meeting of ths Man-: agement Committee of the Blackball Presbyterian Church; the Kirk Session of the Ross Presbyterian Church; the Church of England congregation at Paparoa. Tho Methodist Church of Paparoa sent a.similar resolution, and also' a protest ajgainst the action of Mr.: J. Coates, M.P., Kaipara, in opposing the referendum. Protests were also sent, from Mr.lCbates's committee, and from the ohairman of tho Paparoa County Council.
At v ia meeting of Parnell electors held .in" Parnell,'the following resolution was unanimously adopted: "That the time has come iyhen in the interests of justice the. people of this Dominion should no longer' he denied ; the privilege of having a voice in the question of the religious instruction in : tho ' State schools;.' and urges upon members of Parliament the :urgent necessity for the Referendum .Bill now before Parliament being passed into law."
