EDUCATION BOARD.

, 'NEW SCHOOLS WANTED. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was hold yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs. J. G. .W. Aitken (chairman), A. W. Hoffi, H. Freeman, T. Moss, W. Allan, •T. Itebbell, and Sir Walter Buchanan. The chairman reported that the com-1 mittee set up in regard to tho proposed site for a high school for the Hutt Valley had visited the. locality and inspected several sites. Some of theso .were very, suitable, but the improve-' nieiits on them made them very expensive. A suitable 6ito had, however, been' found on the Hiitt Park, and the com-, wittee recommended. that the trustees of the.park.be written.to asking that a suitable area bo set .aside there for the proposed. school.—This recommendation was adopted by the-board.. ' , •The Papatahi Scli'ool Committee forwarded a plan of the new schools building, and mad©' application for furniture and other assistance from the board.— The matter was referred'to the inspector, who will be visiting the district 6'liortly.' The inspector was similarly instructed to . report on the application from the Dyer: School Committee for,a .residence. -'" '.The-application of Mr. Beetham, of Brancepeth,. for the establishment of 'a -sc'hool _ was referred to the inspector, who will report, to the board when further information has been received on the matter from the School Committee. ' Applications from Masterton.' and Greytowii for classroom alterations and residence • improvements respectively were held over,' as they.had come too late to have a report 1 prepared on them. Authorisations of grants were received from the Government as follow:—Lansdowne (additional room), £575; Ngaio (additional room). £445; Korokoro (additional'room), £375; Kelburn (caretaker's house), £525, and (addition to ' site) £400; Maranui (addit-'on to site) £382,; and (additional room) £398. Intimation was also received from the Government that' children up to Standard 111 might now be received in thn Kelburn Infants' School. Resignations were received arid accepted, as follow:—Miss E. M. Ritchie (schoolteacher, Kohinui); Miss K.'Pattle (schoolteacher, Tauherinikairi, Miss G. O'Brien (assistant, Petone West), Miss M. B. ■ Gibb (schoolteacher, Pori), Miss J Tolley (graduate Students' Training ColIego). ; The statement of finances showed a debit bnlnnee for the month ended July 24 of .£2379 195.;4d.
