Taken all round, the work accomplished on the truck this morning was of.a fairly interesting nature, and although no track records were broken, several liotscs regis, ered performances well above the average. . ' .. " ' The Gisborhp'gelding Chortle, with a [.good weight up, rattled over half n mile m 52Jsec, a.very fine' gallop when it is remembered that he finished very well. His stable companion Multiply, oarrying the samo weight, registered . 51 4-ssec. oyer a similar .distance, 'but unlike Chortle he appeared to be doing his best at the finish;. Both these horses are very well at the present, and as the times registered in their gallops prove, they can go very fast. . Chrysotis and Skein Dhu occupied lmin. lOsec.; while running five furlongs, and Overton. was not going better than three-quarter pace while getting to the ond of six furlongs. Isec. while running the last five furlongs of a mile, the full journey being accomplished in lmin. .54sec. Tannliauser and Thrax were companions in a gallop over seven furlongs, but it was quite plain that neither . was doing his best over the first part, and they ran the last five furlongs in lmin. 5 4-ssec. Tonnhauser'was going the better of the pair at the finish, and ran the distance out in good style. Elagleson and- Hornbeam galloped six furlongs, while Stevedore, assisted .by First "Flight, covered half a mile up the back in. 51 4-ssec. 'Madama' did good three-quarter pace work, and Encore spurted four'furlongs in 52 l-ssec. ■'. I - Golden Morn spurted ialf a mile, and Medallist'easily defeated Hops over live furlongsf in lmin. Corrio galloped ,a mile in lmin. 52sec. Julian (Cress),,and Chatmos (Cochrane) were companions iu a round over the hurdles, but the latter gave a wretched display, and .stopped several times. Julians exhibition was only' a! fair ono, -but he got round safely. . Avon (M'Eandell) and Selwyn (Selby) gave an excellent. exhibition of fencing over the big'country, and both should take a lot or beating in their respective races-at. thVmeeting. ■Cheddar easily beat Amber and White over six furlongs in lmin. 21sec.—a good performance, ,-while Leading Lady and Yeodel got to the end o£ half a mile in-53sec.i and-Julian, who'had been previously exercised over, the hurdles,- was given, half-pace work. Martian and St. Ewe ran five furlongs in lmin. ,7sec, and Ovar (Shaw) jumped four flights, of/hurdles in good style. Captain Jack (A. Eae), Silver Blaze (W. Emerson),' and Uncle Jim, were, given a schooling test over the' big country, the (two first-named.giving a'good exhibition, but Uncle Jim found the pace too'solid. True Blue was given haif-ufice work. The "Looker-on" writes 1 in the "Evening News":—Kilmeny made a hack,• of Mescal ; over a- mile and a quarter, • and registeredV good lime. The more I see of this gelding.'s.work, the more I like his chances.for the big hurdlerace. Chatmos.has-the reputation of being a very fast, jumper 1 } but he could not be persuaded near a 'hurdle, to-day, and his him off after a few ineffectual attempts to get him to jump. The' Spaniard was to have been given some solid work this morning, but on account of having bled yesterday lie was allotted the. mild task ..of trotting iound the sand.'. ', . • . ' Kiinbombi shaped very badly in his gallop, this morning.- Last Tuesday, he easily l disposed of Sam Pan over seven furlongs, but to-day Sam Pan> reversed things by beating his-stable mate like a. hack over a mile. Those who know Kim-', bambi say he is.a very raoodv horse, and' on occasions works'very badly, but that ho is a solid horse in a race. ■. ~. , ■■
