Tho chairman (Air. G, H. Bennett), in open-, ing the meeting, favoured the Edison storage battery system, from which electric lighting could follow, and an overhead l system could be elaborated later if decided on. A mass meeting is to be called to protest against the coun- , oil's delay. Councillor Urabb advocated sending three councillors to* inspect the systems in Melbouruo —three councillors whoso views favoured respectively the overhead system, motor ' buses, and some other system. The trophy is of sterling silver, and stands,about ten inches high, beautifully, finished, and rests on an ebony stand.. ■ ' • A very pleasant card tourney was held under the auspices of the Carterton Fire Brigade on Friday evening, the winning prizes falling to Miss Erski«o and Mr. J.
