—ft ACCIDENT AT LOWER KOTT. MAN BREAKS HIS ANKLE. Robert A. Thomas, a resident of Silverstreara, had the misfortune to break his ankle while crossing the railway line at the Lower Hutt late, on Saturday night. The report from the Hospital was to the effect that Thomas was crossing the line when his feot jammed in the points, and either in falling 'or as the result of a desperate effort to free the imprisoned foot he broke his ankle. Unable to arouse anyone so late at night, he crawled over the metals and spent the whole of the night in a stationary brake-van. He was discovered there yesterday morning, and brought into the Wellington Hospital. Thomas is a single man,' 1 38 years of age. A REVOLVER.SHOT. (By Tea«ffraDl»-—Press. Association.) Dunedln, Julvy 26. At 10 p.m. on Saturday evening a shot was ncard in one of the recesse3 inthe Cargill monument in Customhouse Square. The door was burst open, and a man named Samuel Christie, a contracting ploughman from Moa Flat,' was found inside, suffering from a bullet wound in the forehead. A small revolver was lying on the floor. Christie was taken to the Hospital, where, with the aid of the X-rays,- the bullet was found embeddecl in the skull. He is still in a low condition.
