CERCLE FRANCAIS.

There was a good attendance of members at tha Cerclo Francais on Friday evening, when an interesting.programme was presented. The prinoipal item was a lecture by Mr. John Bigg on ,:Cagliostro: La Splendour et Alisere d'un Maitro do Magie." The lecturer traced a large part of "the 'Career of that 'famous charlatan, describing his miraculous cures'and his wonderful predictions, as well as a number.of. his impostures and failures, concluding with a brief and clear description of. tlio a/fair of the diamond necklace, which did so riiuch to bring about tlio Roign of Terror and the execution of Louis XVI arid his'Queen,i Mario Antoinette. Discussing the question.as to whet|ier or not Joseph Balsamo and Oagliostro were one and the/same person, Mr. Eigg said that in liis : opinion there was too much coincidence''in the accounts ho had read to allow him to believe otherwise. The lecture was introduced by a pianoforte, solo, "Los S,vlvanis."(Chan\inade), admirably played' by Mdllc. Decleene, and an amusing reading, "Tlid Echo," by Mr. T.Kirig. Tlio usual, voto. of thanks was accorded.
