FOR OUR COUNTRY'S SAKE.

Sir, —As tho Bible-in-Schools-is play- 1 "■/ dug such an important part in the cur- ' rent news_ of the day I Naturally feel I should iike to help the :ca,use in some way or other, if. it is only by expressing my sympathy and admiration for • : those leaders of the movement—Canon Garland, Bishop.Sprott, and others who have worked so strenuously against overwhelming difficulties to try and bring about the referendum; I also greatly .appreciate the action of : the . Government in bringing, down the Bill this session, and we hope the referendum will be; carried. . Bible-in-Schools has been discussed from so many points of view that there seems nothing more to say. There is one question I .would like to ask, Sir: "Is this movement for the benefit of the country in which we live, and' is it for the uplifting of the rising'generation? I think you will agree with me v that it is. Then why should it have so. many opponents? The wisest man that over lived, King Solomon, aaid: "Remember now thy' Greater in the days of thy .youth." How can children do that: unless they have the opportunity, of reading tho Biblo? True, there are Sunday schools, • but anyone, who'knows anything about the teaching of children will know that once a week is not enough to' instil, into their young minds the important . truths they learn from the Bible. We do hone that tho Prime Minister'arid 'iiis colleagues will give to us this great ; boon wo are asking for; so that the children of New Zealand may have the opportunity of reading God's ; Word, and be brought up in the "fear and admonition of the Lord.", Hoping I have not taken up too much space,—l em, etc., ■ . • AN ARDENT• SUPPORTER. Petone, July 10, 1914. v .
