Mr. Douglas Laurie, Zoologist at tho Liverpool University, as the result ol research work ion Lord Howo Island, says the fauna shows affinity with that nf New Zealand, and.the beetles with those of Australia, but it is impossible to say till all data has been worked 6ut whether tlie island was originally joine'l to New Zealand or to Australia. Hβ does not think it was ever a part of Polynesia.
