OBITUARY :• DAVEY, OF SIMPSON'S IN THE STRAND. Mr. Davey, the chef at Simpson's in the Strand, London, is dead. He had just previously retired during the last few days after forty-seven years'_ servico. Indeed, several of his_ well-wishers —including theatrical, literary, and commercial, celebrities having pleasant memories of the chef's old English cooking—worn to have presented him with a testimonial on the day completing his forty-seventh year with Simpsoivs.
"Simpson's in the Strand," of course, is n . tavern—though nowadays one might not think it judging from its interior—which is ■world famous for its old. English fare cooked by English cooks and served by English waiters, all in the traditional way.. For seventy year.?, in fact, it has carried on the tradition of the historic; Fountain Tavern, celebrated by Strype, the seventeenth century historian, oil the site of which it stands.
