A report on the proposed , scheme for the drainage of tlio Whan'gamarino swamp in the Auckland. ;district,;, prepared by Mr. J. B. Thompson,. Land Drainage Engineer, was presented' ! to the House of Representatives by the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey on Wednesday. The swamp referred to is imperfectly drained, and frequently flooded by the Waikato River, and owing to the fact that there is no fall into the Waikato Rivor, the drainage operations may bo difficult and costly. Mr. Thompson' states that exhaustive engineering data regarding the river are being prepared for presentation to tho Inland Waterways Commission, and he states that the only reasonable conclusion to be arrived at> is that the matter of drainage must be held in abeyance uutil a comprehensive scheme may be evolved.
