Tlie subject of the upkeep of arterial roads , was discussed by the Farmers' Union Conference yesterday. The matter came up by way of a suggestion that the Government Blioulcl maintain these thoroughfares, but finally it was resolved to approve the suggestion made by the Counties' Conference, that all districts and counties should- be classified, and that the grants ajid subsidies should tie paid in proportion to their needs under the classification,
