Wedding at Napier.
A protty wedding took place on Wednesday at St. John's Cathedral, Napier, when' Miss Olive Newton Snodgrass. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Snodgrass, of iNapier, was married to Mr Alexander Pory M'Hardy, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. M'Hardy, of Blackhead. The interior of the Cathedral was very prettily decorated, and the oeremony was performed' by Canon Mayne. The bride, who was given away by her .father, wore a.- charming dress ot ivory brocaded charmeuse, the bodice and tunic being of ivory ninon embroidered with pearls over pale pink chiffon. She also wore a veil of Brussels lace, with wreaths of orange blossoms. Misses Lynn Snodgrass (sister of the ' bride), Mavis M'Hardy (sister of the bridegroom), and Vera Duthie (cousin of the bride), who attended as bridesmaids, ail wore dresses of soft cream chiffon taffeta, the skirts being flounced and finished with wide cream sashes tied in butterfly bows at the back. Thoy also wore black hats wreathed with'flowers and sapphiro ribbon posies to match. The bride and' the bridesmaids each carried very pretty shower bouquets; Mr. Esdailo Nation was best .mail and Mr.' Ernest Gilbertson and Mr. Trevor Thomas Wore groomsmen. '•The bride's mother wore a dress of natier blue chiffon taffeta, with touches of black,. and black hat • with natier blue ostrich plumes, aiid carried a bouquet .of freesias. Mrs. L. H. M'Hardy wore pale bluo satin, charmeuse, with tunic of striped ninon trimmed with blue,silk .embroideries. She, 'also wore a pretty blue hat, with, blue osprey, and carried a bouquet of lavender and' pale.blue. Mrs. Duthie, aunt of.the".])hde, wore a frock of sapphire blue ci;epe do chine,, with pretty tango sash, and toque of black net, with upstanding .white'feathers. The guests were entertained at the residence of the bride's parents and.Mr. and Mrs. A.. P. M'Hardy left later by motor-car. foi the south. • ~ •
At St. Augustine's Church,. Napier, Miss Searle Amelia Jones was married io Mr! Thomas Williami Walls, both of Napier. The brido, 'who was given away by her father,, was attended uy her two sisters as bridesmaids.' Mr. H. Tronson, of Napier, was best man. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Candn Tuke. ■ ■ '
A Hastings Wedding. At tie Sacred Heart Church, Hastings, on Wednesday, Mr. W. J. Quinlivan, of. Eastings, was married to Miss Margaret Eileen Hay, of. Waipawa. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attended by Miss K. liay, Miss Jiileen Qufnlivan, and Miss Margaret Skinner, of Palmqrston North. Mr. F. T. Quinlivan, brotlior of tho groom, was best man. Tho officiating clergyman was tho Very Rev. Father Keogh. '
A Sydney Wedding. A wedding of interest to Wellington' people took place on July 15 at the Picc Streot Congregational Church, Sydney, . the Rev. Austen officiating, wlien Aliss Trixio Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. H; Miller, formerly of Kelburn, .Wellington, was married to Mr. Horace B. Turner, of Sydney. The ; bride;'-.who..'was given away by. 'her father, wore a simple gown of white crepe de chine, trimmed with real laco and orange blossom, and carried a sheaf of arum lillies. Sho. w«s attended by • Miss Kitty Heading and'lie: two sisters,. Miss Pricilla Miller and ' Miss Jean Miller,' all of whom wore daffodil yellow crepe de chine frocks, with Dutch caps, and earned bouquets of daffodils. ■The best man was Mr. George Miller, .und the groomsmen Mr. Donald Hattersley . and Mr. Robert -'Lore., ■ The bridegroom's present to the bride was a gold wristlet watch, and to tho bridesmaids a gold, bangle and diamond brooches respectively. A reception was afterwards'hold at Baumann's;; Mrs. Miller woro a-gown of black satin, with rettl lace, arid touches of royal blue, •with- which was worn a , black velvet hat, with largo white ostrich feather. There wero several New Zealanders present, including Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Bannister. Mr; and Mrs. M. Bannister. Miss Basil- Jones, Mrs. F. Kirby, and Mr. \y. Jamieson.

Dunedin people who have left on a visit to Australia are: Mr. and Mrs. 0. Rattray, .Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Fenwick,' Mr. Percy Neill with his daughter, Mrs. Bridgeman and Mr. F. Bridgeman, and Mr. J. Ritchie.
Another of Miss Borlase's-. senior assemblies was held in tho Sydney Street schoolroom last evening and was much enjoyed by. those who were present. The number of chaperones who at'teiid these • dances is always surprisingly largo, and last . evening there was no exception to tho rule. Miss Borlase, wearing a black gown with flowers, was ■present. " '

Bernhardt Touring the World. An announcement has been published ill American newspapers that- Madame Sarah Bernhardt-, who is now 70 years of. age, is about to undertake a professional tour of the world, which will extend over 26 months and during which' she will visit five Continents. She will commence her tour in October With a season of 15 weeks in the United States, aftor which she will sail for the Mediterranean, and after giving a series of performances in Europe, she will change her company and appear on a vaudeville basis, visiting South Africa, Australia, and Japan, and going afterwards to Valparaiso, Buenos Aires, and Bio do Janeiro. Her final appearance will ba in Madrid.
Palmerston News. The carnival queen, Miss Ellen Millar, is indisposed, and on the doctqr's orders will bo confined to her homo for 'several days. It is therefore announced that the social arranged in her honour is postponed till next Tuesday. There was a record attendance of the Friendly Society group at the social on Wednesday night to Miss Taylor, 'who narrowly missed winning the queeuship of the carnivil. Miss Cook also attended, and the other three candidates sent apologies. Miss Taylor's supportpresented her with a purse of sovereigns. The Ladies' Committee also 'made a .presentation. •••
The Manawatu Society'of Professional Musicians has appointed Mrs. M'Kiunon secretary, in place of Mrs. Hawsoii, who is leaving the district. Some steps will be taken to recognise Mrs. Hawson's services. '
Dance In, the Oriental Bay Kloslu . The'annual danoe of the South Wellington .Lawn Tennis Club was held in tlio Oriental Bay Kiosk last evening, arid was most successfully earned out in every way. Tlio ball-room,, which was prettily decorated with' lycopodium and drapery, was comfortably Tilled for dancing,, and a clear _ cold ' night was very conducivo to dancing. Supper was laid in the downstairs room,! tlio tables, having been arranged with spring flow : ers. The chaperones were: Mesdames Bell, Caterer, Flux, Hendry, and M'Donald. The committee was formed ■by the .Misses I. Bull, M. M'Donald, N. Norris, E. White, M. Caterer, D. Hendry, Messrs. A. Bell, L. Ritchie, V. Haughton, W. Crew. The secretary was. Mr. F. W. Ward. ' :

Miss Ethel Lissack, well known in amateur theatrical circles, returned yesr terday from a lengthy visit to Sydney. ■Regarding tho rumours, about Miss Cecil Haines's ill-health, Miss Lissack states that there was 'nothing' to baso them on, and the clever little girl is in the best of health and spirits.
, The last chance, probably for many years to come, of hearing Mischa Elman play in Wellington was given last evening, and to music-lovers it will remain one iof the occasions that will always be thought of -wi th gratitudo that such a'chance them in this isolated country of hearing such perfect playing. •If the'hall was not'so crowded, as it ought to have been, for such an artist, it was filled witlj enthusiasm, aiid probably 110 one lias roused such storms of applause at the end of his performances as Mischa Elman. At the last the audience found it almost impossible to part with him, and again and again, and yet again, it- called for liira, and would not be denied, and again- and again lie played for it with tho greatest ■generosity.' Altogether his three concerts have been great events. Mdlle. Gauthicr, the charming: French singer, also met with a warm wclcohio. . She was wearing a gown of soft russet brown crepe,' most beautifully - draped,. with corsage of cream - lace outlined with gold-worked embroideries. In. -lier' hair, worn high at tho back; she woro upstanding thick black osprey plumes.
