Oil Wednesday evening Mr. C. M. . Luke,, vice-president of the Newtown Bowling Club, presided ever an assembly of fifty members and visitors, including .about a dczon from tho Te Hiwi Club, the guests of tho evening. Mr. Luke, in welcoming the visitors, apologised for the enforced absence of the president,' Mr. J. Trevor. An orchestra,', comprising Messrs. H. B. Oakes (trombone), A. Williams (piano), A. S. Hilliker ('cello), W. H. Bowman (cornet), A. Gillies (violin), F. Duncan (bass), under the leadership. of Mr. J. F. Woodward (violin), rendered .an excellent programme. Messrs. Oakes and Bowman contributed solos with orchestra accompaniment, and Mr- Hilliker solos with piano. Messrs. Gillies and Williams also contributed' vocal items, the whole programme being received with great applause. Cards were played till 10:45, when supper was handed round. Mr. Shallcrass, on behalf of the Te Hiwi visitors, thanked the hosts .of the evening for t-lje enjoyable time they had had. Messrs. Scott and Lauchton moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers which was. carried witli the utmost enthusiasm. Mr. Oakes suitably replied.
