On tho recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was decided that a renewal of the lease of the concrete house at Lyall Bay for a further term of three years bo granted, at the rental of £54 lis. per annum, subject to the right; of the council to cancel the lease at any time if the land and building is required for public purposes. _ It was deoided that provision -be made in the estimates for the year to provide the sum of £1000 for tar macadam plant required by the City Engineer, and also that-provision be made for the; payment of. £1260 for new road rollers this year. ' . • Permission was granted , for the erection of a building "on. Fielder's land at Manners Street, up to the new frontage line at this point. : It was resolved that a one-inch temporary water main be laid at Wilton Itond, Wadestown. The" application of - the! BrennanFuller's, Ltd., for a reduction in tho water account of His Majesty's Theatre for the month of May, when there was an excessive - water consumption, was refused, as the waste was'caused by defective fittings. ;• It wa-s decided that the coal yard at' :the lighting station, between the boiler house and the Technical School Workshops, be covered iu, at an estimated cost of £380. . ' ' , ' On the recommendation of the Tram-' ways Committee, it was decided that in' view of the prices quoted, and the limitations set in regard to the-capac-ity of the vehicles for the work required; no tender- bo accepted, for an electric car and an electric chassis for the Tramway Department., ■ The ' Tramways Committee reported that they had 'been waited upon by a deputation of Northland residents, who requested that Northland bo provided with a tram servico from tho present line to-Seaview Terrace. Tlie committee' had referred the matter to the Tromways Board to report. On the recommendation of the Leaseholds Committee, it was agreed that the tenants of' the Pahiatiia Endowment who petitioned for the sale to them of tho freehold nt the present Government unimproved .value bo informed that the council declines to -grant their petition.
