PAHIATUA. A well-attended meeting of Pahiatrla residents, held on Monday night, and presided, over by the Mayor, Mr. J. D. ■ C.' Crewe, discussed the question of allowing the new post office to bo erected in one of the town squares. After considerable discussion it was decided to endorse tlio Borough Council's action in deciding to take a poll on the question. Pahiatua was very freo from fires during the year elided June 30. The annual report of the fire brigade shows - o .loss by fire for the year of only £55, the lowest loss as far as can. be.ascertained since the brigade , was formed. CARTERTON. On Monday evening , tho members of , St. Mark's Church choir and their friends tendered a social evening to Miss Marion Armstrong,' on the eve of lier marriage. There was a largo . attendance, dancing, cards, and ail amusing advertisement competition, being indulged in, the latter-being'won by Master L. Sarensen. At an interval in-the proceedings, the Rev. R. Young asked Miss Armstrong's, acceptance, oi: behalf of the choir, of a silver ontr« dish. The gift was suitably acknowledged by Mr. N. R. Armstrong on behalf of his sister. Owing to being unablo to get a team together, the Carterton hockey seniors ■ will not take part in the' seveu-a-sido tournament to be held'at Masterton on Thursday. The following have accepted positions as judges at the forthcoming show of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society:— Holstein cattle, Mr. Barriball; Shorty horn cattle, Mr. R. E. Alexander; lighx horses, Mr. E. W. Roberts; Southdowr* sheep, Mr. John Linton; Ayrshire cat tie, .Mr; ,W! G. Ranking sheep , dogs; Mr. R. J. Linu; grain, Mr'. A. Leigh.. Hunt; school exhibits, Mr. T R; Fleming: butter, Mr. W.. Dickie. The silver cup presented by tho Wai. rarapa Licensed Victuallers to tlio Wairarapa P. and A. Society is to be competed for in the draught horses class.
