INCIDENT OF PALMERSTON CARNIVAL. . , (By Telesrcnh.— Special Oorrtsiirmdent.) Palmerston N., July 20. Carnival Queen Night at Palmerston left trouble to follow for a taxi-cab driver named Ryan. It appears that Ryan claimed to have beon engaged to drive the o,ueen, after her "coronation," to the social gathering, and at the time when ho had possession of first place in the row of cars drawn up outside the Opera House, Constable Gow ordered all tlio taxis to move on, as ho considered that they were, obstructing the people who -were seeking their own cars. All obeyod except Ryan, who also disobeyed a second request unless' the constable moved all the cars in such a. way as to retain for him the front place. Ryaii's claim to be awaiting the queen was then disputed by a rival driver. . Ryan was subsequently finedos., with costs 75., for disobeying the constable's order. ..
