WELLINGTON BOXING ASSOCIATION

THE HAGERIY-O'GRADY AFFAIR. A meeting of the committee of the Wellington Boxing Association was held last ■ night. Mr. J. L. Day presided and there were also present Messrs. E. Dawson, N. Coffey, D. Hoggard, W. l'orciliani, F. Gale, B. Guise, and E. A. Blundell.

, The Ne.v- Zealand Council wrote stating that as there appeared to be some misunderstanding concerning the weight limits for the New Zealand amateur championships, it intimated that weights were as ,follow:—Bantam, 85t.. 21b._ and under; feather, 9st. and under; light, 10st. and under; welter. IC-st. 91b. and under; middle, list. 41b". .and under; heavy, any: weight. The letter also stated that the Press Association, report to the effect that the recent MitchellMurphy contest at Hamilton was. for the -, welter-weight championship , was incorrest, no permit having been issued by the council for such an event. It was decided to cable to W. Lawless offering a £150 purse end £20 expenses for him to match M'Coy against, Hagerty at Wellington on or about August 22. Writing on behalf of Frank Ellis, Mr. L. Clark inquired what purse and expenses the association would be prepared to allow him to make a , trip to New Zealand. It was decided k> write inquiring what terms were desired. "I don't believe in this;£]oo business, win, lose, or draw," said a member when a letter from E.. Casey, manager for "Jimmy" Hill, was read,' asking the association if it could fix up a match with "Jimmy" Hill.and "Jim" Hagerty, the former being willing to go over for £100, win, lose, or draw, and £25 expenses. It was decided.not to entertain tho proposal. Later in the evening it was decided to write inquiring for fresh terms. Notification was received froni the New Zealand Council of the appointment of Mr. Hamilton as referee for tlw championships at Wanganui. In connection with the"championships, the secretary reported that with the exception of the heavy-weighte, everything had been fixed up.

In regard to the case of M'Farlane, who wrote to a Wellington paper complaining of treatment received from the association regarding a trophy he had won, M'Farlano attended the meeting and expressed his regret for so doing, and admitted he had made a mistake by his action. His explanation was accepted. Mr. Staples moved: "That all members of the association who were unfinancial last year be struck off." Mr. Blundell moved as an amendment: "That the unfinnnciftl members be given fourteen days' notice before being finally struck off." The.-amendment was carried. " ■ i

Tho Hagerty-O'Grady affair was briefly referred to. Tho secretary stated that Sir. M'Villy had some persona! information regarding tho matter, and he wanted it to be held over.

Mr. Gale: I have a. certificate here from the doctor to say that O'Grady wan injured. The chairman: In view of this other , representation we will leave the matter over. ' A member: I think we had better. Two members who had volunteered to give evidence in regard to tho affair were,in attendance at tho meeting, but their services were not required. \

Mr. Galo later in the evening remarked that he would liko to know when the O'Grady-Haserty business was going to be cleared up. , Another member: I would like to know if a special meeting is to bo held ? The chairman: A special meeting will be held after the Wanganui conference.
